Youth Accounts

Delta County Federal Credit Union understands that youth are our future, and for that reason we focus on providing young savers with the tools necessary to become successful money managers.

To make saving easy and profitable for the saver, we offer a Youth Savings program featuring fee-free accounts, low opening balance requirements, and preferential dividends (interest rates).

Youth accounts are set up as joint ownership with an adult (parent, grandparent, guardian) and remain in the "youth" category until the owner reaches the age of 18, at which point the account transitions to a standard account.

Follow these steps to get started with our Youth Savings program...

Step 1: Establish your credit union membership by opening a Share account. There is a $1 membership fee and a $25 investment required (representing your share of ownership in the credit union); however, for a youth Share account this investment may be paid over a six month period, with a minimum of $5 due upon opening of the Share account.

Step 2: Once the Share account is established then a Youth Savings account may be opened with a $5 opening balance requirement. As with our Share accounts, our Youth accounts have no account-related fees and even offer dividends that exceed those paid for funds on deposit in our Share accounts.

Step 3: Once your Youth Savings account balance exceeds $250, you have the option to have those funds withdrawn from the Youth Savings account and put into a 3-month Youth Share Certificate (CD). Funds deposited in a Youth Share Certificate are "tied up" for the 3-month term of the CD and only available, without penalty, upon the maturity of the CD. Upon maturity of the CD, funds may be withdrawn penalty-free (within 10 days of maturity), and if not withdrawn, the funds will be automatically rolled into another 3-month CD. At maturity a CD's balance may also be added to. Youth Share Certificates pay an attractive preferential dividend. For current rates, click here.

All of your funds on deposit with Delta County Federal Credit Union are federally insured for up to $250,000 by NCUA.
