Overdraft Protection

An Overdraft Protection Account (ODP) can be thought of as an unsecured line of credit. An ODP account has two principal purposes:

  1. To provide the member a measure of protection from overdraft fees and the possible negative repercussions that can result from a returned check or electronic payment. Simply put, an ODP account is a form of ‘fee and reputation protection’.
  2. A member’s ODP line of credit is included in the member’s available balance that is used for debit card, electronic transaction, and check approvals, as well as for cash withdrawal purposes.

As with any personal loan, we require that a consumer loan application be completed ($15 application fee applies). The loan approval and assigned ODP credit limit is based upon the member’s credit worthiness as determined by factors such as credit report, debt to income ratio, history with the Credit Union, amongst other factors.

ODP lines of credit are available only in association with Share Draft accounts and come with credit limits of between $250 and $2,000, and with an Annual Percentage Rate (APR) of 15%. The minimum monthly repayment amount is $25 (unless balance is less than $25). In some cases, credit limit may be increased after six months of positive repayment history.
